Library News
February is Love Your School Library Month! On Valentine’s Day, students and staff are invited to come to school dressed as your favourite book character! Everyone who participates can enter their name in a draw for 3 Armchair Books gift certificates! Ms. Benes will also be providing “I Love my Library - Reading Bingo” sheets for students to do on their own time during the month of February. Completed bingo sheets will be placed in a draw for a prize at the end of the month!

The Red Cedar Book Club (Grades 6-7) has begun! The Red Cedar Award is British Columbia's Young Readers Choice book award. Red Cedar members are expected to read at least five of the titles nominated in either the fiction or non-fiction category over the next few months. In May, they will vote for the one that they think is the best Canadian book of the year.

Our Grade 4 and 5 students who have chosen to participate in the Reading Link Challenge, in collaboration with the Pemberton Public Library, are also busily reading their six books! Once they are finished, the students will be divided into teams which will compete against each other in a series of Jeopardy style games. The public library is hosting a book club for RLC readers after school on Thursdays, starting on February 2nd, for those who would like to dive deeper into the books. See here for more details!

The primary classes are beginning to read the Chocolate Lily Award nominees for the picture book category. The Chocolate Lily Book Awards celebrates the talent of BC's children's authors and illustrators. Students will vote on their favourite in the spring!

Electronic Resources

The Sea to Sky School District has purchased several amazing resources for our students to use when doing research both at school and at home.  Our students can now access several Electronic Resources. If you are accessing from the school, no password is required.  If you need our password to access the databases from home, see Ms. Benes.

Pemberton Public Library

Reminder to all of the amazing resource that is our Pemberton Public Library! We encourage all students and families to check out their terrific selection of eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines and Tumblebooks! For most of these, but not all, you need a library card which requires a parent/guardian to email or call the library to get a card number. Ms. Benes strongly encourages all Signal Hill students to have their own card at the Pemberton Public Library!
