Library News

The school year is quickly coming to an end! All students with lost or missing books, please look carefully at home throughout the summer and return any Signal Hill materials in September. If items are truly lost, please see Ms. Benes about the replacement costs or to discuss alternative arrangements.

Thank you to the Signal Hill PAC for their generous contributions that allowed the library to host author visits for all grade levels over the past couple months. Our most recent visit was from Tanya Kyi who presented to the Grade K/1-2/3s - Storytelling Goes Green. The students learned about green cities, the writing process, and had fun!

The library is discarding many books that are in good condition in order to make room for new and updated resources. The discarded books are for sale by donation, with no minimum amount! There is a table of books in the entryway of the school with a drop box for any and all donations towards future author visits!

Our book clubs are finished for the year and the winners have been announced! The B.C. Chocolate Lily Young Readers’ Choice Awards encourages primary school students to read some of the best picture books by British Columbia’s children’s authors and illustrators. The winner this year is Flamingo by Guojing! The Grade 6/7 Red Cedar Young Readers’ Choice Award announced that the 2023/24 Fiction Award winner is Apartment 713 by Kevin Sylvester and the recipient of the 2023/24 Non- Fiction Award is My Left Skate by Eliezer Sherbatov.

Electronic Resources

The Sea to Sky School District has purchased several amazing resources for our students to use when doing research both at school and at home.  Our students can now access several Electronic Resources. If you are accessing from the school, no password is required.  If you need our password to access the databases from home, see Ms. Benes.

Pemberton Public Library

Reminder to all of the amazing resource that is our Pemberton Public Library! We encourage all students and families to check out their terrific selection of eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines and Tumblebooks! For most of these, but not all, you need a library card which requires a parent/guardian to email or call the library to get a card number. Ms. Benes strongly encourages all Signal Hill students to have their own card at the Pemberton Public Library!
